Your wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime celebration.  The culmination of months of planning and preparing, it should be handled by professionals who want to make your vision a reality.  Each wedding reception held here is unique and receives our undivided attention so you -- and each of your guests -- can be treated to a memorable experience, served in a time-honored Southern style.

Located in the heart of downtown Richmond, The Commonwealth Club provides a traditional and timeless venue for weddings - big or small.  Established in 1890, several generations have celebrated their wedding day in our beautiful ballroom, which was designed to house such special occasions.  The Commonwealth Club stands alone with its beautiful facilities and unmatched quality in cuisine, presentation and service.

Throughout the planning process to the moment you arrive for your reception, you will feel confident knowing that everything is taken care of and each detail will be carefully executed by our dedicated staff, allowing you to enjoy your wedding day to the fullest!

Our Weddings Include

  • Personalized menu consultation and planning (full-service catering & beverage facility)
  • Customized floor plan
  • Use of tables, chairs and white linens (tablecloths and napkins)
  • All china, silver and glassware
  • Onsite day-of coordinator
  • Access to bride and groom rooms throughout your wedding day
  • Complimentary valet parking (fee applies to guest counts more than 150)
  • Optional: Ceremony seating up to 165 (separate room rental applies)

We offer two styles of receptions:
Seated Dinner -- maximum capacity is 250 guests in the main ballroom with a dance floor
Cocktail Style -- (heavy hors d'oeuvres with chef attended action stations) - capacity up to 500 guests

Sponsored Weddings

As a private club, all events that take place at The Commonwealth Club must be either hosted or sponsored by a current member (no exceptions).  Once you have identified a sponsor, we will be happy to share initial pricing information, schedule a tour of our venue and hold up to two dates.  A room rental fee applies for all sponsored events.     

Dress code

It is important to note, The Commonwealth Club has a dress code for all meetings and events -- jacket and tie required for men and comparable attire for the ladies.  We respectfully request that all wedding guests observe this time-honored tradition.
